Paver Rectification Trial on Quay Street

Project Scope

Rockhampton Regional Council undertook a trial of relaying sections of pavers on Quay Street. The trial evaluation of rotating the direction of pavers to align with vehicle movement is a necessary step to establish a well-designed solution. Following the 12-month study, the Council will attempt to recover costs through the firm deemed responsible for the paver failure.

What’s involved?

The works were carried out in two phases to minimise the impact. Each phase involved works taking place in two separate sections on Quay Street (between William Street & Fitzroy Street).  The partial sections of road were fenced off for the safe removal of cracked pavers and the installation of new pavers in a different direction.

Quay Street remained open to one-way traffic throughout the duration of the works and trial period.

When & where were the trial pavers installed?

Phase 1 – March 2020

  • Section 1A: 176 to 180 Quay Street (riverside); and
  • Section 1B: 220 to 222 Quay Street (riverside).

Phase 2 –April 2020

  • Section 2A: 176 to 180 Quay Street (City side); and
  • Section 2B: 220 to 222 Quay Street (City side).

Council is currently monitoring the performance of the relayed pavers.
