The Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility (LCR WMF) comprises several key areas that support waste management and resource recovery:

  • Landfill Zones – engineered areas for the safe disposal of residual waste
  • Waste Transfer Station (WTS) – for the efficient handling and redirection of waste
  • Resource Recovery Area (RRA) – for sorting and salvaging reusable materials
  • Community Recycling Centre (CRC) – for the drop off of recyclable household items
  • Reuse Shop – a not for profit social enterprise offering quality second-hand goods

Accepted Items for Disposal

At the Community Recycling Centre (CRC)

For domestic customers with vehicles under 4.5 tonnes GVM – free drop-off before the weighbridge:

  • Commingled recyclables - paper, cardboard, glass, and plastic beverage containers
  • E-Waste - computers, photo copiers and other specific electronic devices
  • Household items - must be in a reusable condition and acceptance is at staff discretion
  • Other domestic items accepted for free:
  • 20L or less labelled domestic motor oil and cooking oil
  • Vehicle batteries (lead acid, not lithium-ion)
  • Up to 100L of non-industrial architectural paint (in containers up to 20L)
  • Gas bottles and cylinders (up to 9kg)
  • Fire extinguishers (water, CO₂, and powder only)
  • Small scrap metal

Over the Weighbridge

Free Drop-Off:

  • Large scrap metal (free of fluids and tyres)
  • Large whitegoods (e.g. stoves, washing machines, microwaves – excluding fridges, freezers, and air conditioners)
  • Clean soil (less than 1 tonne free for domestic customers)
  • Flares and EPIRBs

Items with Disposal Fees:

  • General household and commercial waste
  • Green waste
  • Air conditioners, refrigerators & air conditioners
  • Solar panels and solar hot water systems
  • Construction and demolition waste
  • Inert waste (e.g. mixed earth - soil, concrete, reinforcing steel )
  • Tyres and mattresses
  • Timber
  • Regulated waste (Category 2), including asbestos-containing material (ACM)

Important Note:
Regulated waste, including asbestos loads over 175 kg, must be pre-booked and approved prior to disposal.

Waste load and quantity definitions - Commercial vs Domestic 

Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility accepts both domestic and commercial waste.

Our rural waste facilities at Alton Downs, Bajool, Bouldercombe, Bushley, Gracemere, and Mount Morgan, accept domestic waste only.

Commercial Waste Loads

A waste load is classified as commercial if any of the following apply:

  • The waste is generated from a business activity, or
  • The person delivering the waste is being paid to do so, or
  • The waste does not originate from your principal place of residence. This includes any waste delivered in vehicles displaying business signage or registered for commercial use.
Domestic Waste Loads

A waste load is classified as domestic if:

  • It originates from your principal place of residence.

Note: Final classification of loads is at the discretion of gatehouse staff at each facility.
