Privacy and Personal Information
What is personal information?
Personal information is any information or opinion about an identifiable individual, whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not. This includes:
- Name, address, phone number, email address
- Signature
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Employment information
- Medical or health information
- Bank account or financial details
- Drivers licence or passport number
- Photographs or video footage of the individual

Councils responsibilities under the Queensland Privacy Principles
Council must comply with the QPP's, which govern how personal information is:
- Collected: Only when necessary and by lawful and fair means
- Stored and secured: Protected against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure
- Used and disclosed: Only for the purpose it was collected, unless consent is given or required by law
- Accessed and amended: Individuals have the right to access and correct their personal information
Council also ensures transparency, accountability and privacy impact assessments to review new projects involving personal data.
Application to amend personal information
If you believe your personal information held by Council is inaccurate, incomplete, our of date or misleading, you can request an amendment.

If you believe Council has mishandled your personal information, you can lodge a privacy complaint
How to make a complaint
- Provide details of the alleged breach and any supporting documents
- Submit your complaint in writing to Council
- Council will investigate and respond within 45 business days
If you're not satisfied with the outcome, you may escalate the matter to the Office of the Information Commissioner Queensland
