Privacy and Personal Information

What is personal information?

Personal information is any information or opinion about an identifiable individual, whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not. This includes:

  • Name, address, phone number, email address
  • Signature
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Employment information
  • Medical or health information 
  • Bank account or financial details
  • Drivers licence or passport number
  • Photographs or video footage of the individual

Council collects personal information to deliver services, manage community engagement and meet legal obligations.

Councils responsibilities under the Queensland Privacy Principles

Council must comply with the QPP's, which govern how personal information is:

  • Collected: Only when necessary and by lawful and fair means
  • Stored and secured: Protected against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure
  • Used and disclosed: Only for the purpose it was collected, unless consent is given or required by law
  • Accessed and amended: Individuals have the right to access and correct their personal information

Council also ensures transparency, accountability and privacy impact assessments to review new projects involving personal data.

If you believe your personal information held by Council is inaccurate, incomplete, our of date or misleading, you can request an amendment.
