Rockhampton will soon play host to hundreds of major state and Government delegates when the 2020 Developing Northern Australia Conference commences on Monday 23 November.

This multi-day event provides a platform to unite leaders, decision makers, industry representatives and community members to advance Australia’s northern regions.

Now in its sixth year, the conference offers attendees the chance to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced within key growth pillars, and reflect upon progress being made in each industry.

Rockhampton Region Acting Mayor Neil Fisher said hosting the Developing Northern Australia Conference will be a great profile for the region.

“With Rockhampton already renowned as a major resource and industrial hub, the conference is a great opportunity to profile our city to national delegates and showcase how our region is gearing up to offer further services to key growth sectors,” Acting Mayor Fisher said.

“Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in one of our pre-conference activities including a Beef Processing Innovation and Cultural Diversity Tour, Mining Services Tour or Recreational Fishing Tourism Tour, seeing firsthand all the Rockhampton region has to offer.”

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Executive Manager – Advance Rockhampton, Mr Greg Bowden, said the Rockhampton region is recognised nationally as the gateway to Northern Australia and as such is a great fit to host the Developing Northern Australia Conference.

“Rockhampton’s central location along major north, south and west transport and freight routes, combined with its close proximity to Queensland’s largest coal basins, makes it a vital service centre for the wider Central Queensland region,” Mr Bowden said.

“Advance Rockhampton is focused on industry growth with major contributions from the mining, construction, agriculture, health, transport and logistics sectors.

“With a diverse economy, modern lifestyle, high quality services and facilities, the Rockhampton region is ideally positioned to provide goods, services and talent to the wide range of industries calling Central Queensland home.”

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Manager of Tourism and Events, Annette Pearce, said it’s fantastic to see a national event like the Developing Northern Australia Conference select Rockhampton as the host city.

“With our world-class and unique facilities, authentic experiences and award-winning accommodation, Rockhampton has become a destination of choice for conferences, sporting events and expos,” Ms Pearce said.

“As the capital of Central Queensland and gateway to Northern Australia, we are well positioned to host major national events like Beef Australia, Rockynats Car Festival and the 2020 Developing Northern Australia Conference.”

The 2020 Developing Northern Australia Conference will be held from 23-25 November 2020 at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
