Rockhampton Regional Council are excited to announce that a permit has been approved for Neuron Mobility to operate E-Scooters in Rockhampton on a 12 month trial.

Neuron was selected due to its strong track record of partnering with councils across Australia, and its leadership when it comes to safety and innovation. With the E-Scooters set to hit the street in late February, Neuron will invest significantly into the city, creating approximately 25 local jobs and increase economic activity.

Rockhampton Region Deputy Mayor Neil Fisher said it is a great step forward for Rockhampton to have access to additional transport options.

“Our Rockhampton community will benefit from access to the e-scooters, opening up precincts across the city to residents and visitors who may not have previously been able to access everything our city has to offer.”

“Neuron have an excellent safety record and pride themselves on providing a safe riding experience. Their distinctive orange e-scooters feature a 000 emergency button which can tell if someone has a fall and helps them call the emergency services, voice guidance to educate and warn riders of how to ride safely, and geofencing technology to control where e-scooters are ridden and parked” said Deputy Mayor Neil Fisher.

Head of Australia and New Zealand at Neuron Mobility Mr Richard Hannah said Neuron are delighted to have been chosen by Rockhampton Regional Council to provide our e-scooters as part of a 12-month trial and thank them for their trust and support.

“E-scooters are really well suited to the city and they will be a great way for locals as well as tourists to travel in a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way. Elsewhere in Australia, they are significantly reducing congestion and emissions while also helping to boost the local economy.”

“Safety is our top priority, it dictates our e-scooter design and also the way we operate them. Our e-scooters are packed with a range of cutting-edge safety features and we know from experience in other cities that riders really appreciate this” said Mr Hannah.

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Mr Greg Bowden says it is exciting to see the E-Scooters coming to fruition for Rockhampton after Advance Rockhampton were set the task in 2021 to find a suitable operator.

“The E-Scooters are a key economic growth tool, with Neuron employing locals from Rockhampton region to manage and maintain the scooter fleet. Alongside the jobs for locals, the e-scooters provide another public transport option in our city for travel between our retail sporting and business precincts, generating more economic activity across the city. Think about how easy it will be to get from Browne Park to the city after a game and from the city to Stockland to do some shopping.”

“E-scooters continue to be an exciting addition to many cities and are increasing in popularity with Townsville, Melbourne, Ballarat and Rockhampton now joining the number of cities participating. Riders will be able to book and use the e-scooters through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes, making it easier for residents and visitors to experience Rockhampton” said Mr Bowden.

Rockhampton Regional Council, through the initiatives of Advance Rockhampton are excited to see Neuron launch E-Scooters to Rockhampton in late February. The addition of the E-scooter fleet reinforces the commitment towards creating new opportunities for all residents and visitors to enjoy the Rockhampton region.
