Rockhampton Regional Council is about to open round three of its 2018/19 Community Assistance Program (CAP), in support of not-for-profit organisations planning to host local projects and events.

In addition to the existing program, the CAP now also includes an Environment and Sustainability Scheme to support community-led environment and sustainability initiatives.

Chair of Council’s Community Services Committee, Councillor Rose Swadling, said the program had already supported 46 local organisations so far this year, providing $134,633.25 in funding support.

“I am tremendously proud that Council offers this program.

“It is all about supporting local community, cultural, sporting and multicultural groups to bring quality projects and events to our residents,” Cr Swadling said.

“Past grants have helped groups add features to well used facilities and to host a wide range of events, including charity balls and family fun days.

“We are excited to welcome additional applications which have a specific sustainable element to them for the first time, making our program even broader.

“I would strongly encourage all of our local and diverse community groups take advantage of this opportunity and submit an application for an upcoming project.

Council’s Environment spokesperson, Councillor Drew Wickerson, said this was yet another example of Council highlighting the importance of looking after our natural environment.

“We know that our community is passionate about protecting the valuable natural resources we have, and this scheme will allow community-led initiatives to seek significant financial support in achieving their goals.

“The new Environment and Sustainability Scheme element of CAP will be looking for applications which protect, maintain and enhance our natural environment, and applications that strengthen our community capacity to live sustainably.

“As it’s the first time Council is offering this scheme, we will be holding an information session on Monday 4 February for anyone who wants to find out more.”

Community groups seeking funding are required to meet specific criteria relating to each grant type. Further details can be found here.

Application forms and information guides are also available from Council’s Libraries and Customer Service Centres, or you can call 4932 9000.
