Rockhampton Regional Council has officially opened its one-of-a-kind play space in Norman Gardens that features a vibrant ninja-themed obstacle course.
Located on Springfield Drive, the playground is designed for children aged three to 12 and promises action-packed adventure for all abilities.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said she was thrilled to see the playground open in time for the winter school holidays.
“I am delighted to see the playground opened, it’s so unique for our area and is designed to encourage active play and adventure,” Cr Rutherford said.
“To test your ninja skills, you hit the clock and run through the course with a timer capturing how fast you can complete it.”
The ninja obstacle course includes a series of adventurous features such as a climbing net, balance pommels, curved climbing bars, a mini rock-climbing wall, timber balance beams, a ramp with rope pull, and a slide to finish.
“This playground isn’t just for the thrill-seekers,” Cr Rutherford said.
“There’s an all-abilities inclusive play unit with interactive elements, a separate bird’s nest swing, and junior balance beams for the littlest adventurers.”
“For the parents and caregivers, there is shaded seating and picnic facilities to enjoy the space.
“We’ve also completed landscaping and planted trees and I look forward to seeing them grow and mature, offering shade for those visiting the park.”
Divisional Councillor Shane Latcham said the park was a welcome addition to the growing suburb of Norman Gardens.
“This play space has been years in the making so today is an exciting day for our residents, especially the children who are keen to test it out,” Cr Latcham said.
“With school holidays upon us, we invite families to come along and check out the new park.”
The new park is yet to be named, with the community consultation concluding last month and Council expected to make a decision in the coming weeks.
In its recent 2025/2026 Budget, Council allocated funding to install a shade structure at the park in the coming months.
