Lively Morgan Street kicks off with Home Grown Festival

This weekend, the first event as part of Council’s Lively Morgan Street program will see Mount Morgan CBD taken over by artists, musicians and entertainers.

Hosted by Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Incorporated, the inaugural Dee Home Grown Festival will be held this Sunday and is set to showcase the Region’s home-grown talents with live entertainment, workshops and market stalls.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said the event will see the area become a hive of activity, and that Council hopes it will encourage others to engage with Council about the program.

“This program was a massive success when we rolled out in Quay Street and Council is proud to help roll out events across the region to support our communities everywhere,” Mayor Strelow said.

“The Dee Home Grown Festival is sure to be a great event and Council wants to see more like it. Our hope is that people walk away not only having had a great time, but also thinking about what further activities can take place through the program.

“The potential of Mount Morgan cannot be overestimated and that is why Council has an Advance Mount Morgan Strategy – to turn that potential into outcomes not just for the town but for the whole region.

“The rich history of this place as well as the opportunities with the Dam and Fireclay Caverns provide us with a foundation on which we can forge the town’s future as a thriving tourist destination.

“Each new event we can do brings that dream a little closer and I would encourage everyone in our Region to get out to the Festival this Sunday,” Mayor Strelow said.

The Dee Home Grown Festival will be held from 10am – 4pm this Sunday, June 24, in Morgan Street. Detours will be in place during this time.
