Celebrate 2024 Seniors Month
Published on 30 September 2024
October marks a special time in the Rockhampton Region calendar, as it kicks off the celebrations for Seniors Month.
The month-long celebration recognises the valuable contributions of our senior community members and promotes the theme, Love Getting Older in Queensland.
From fitness classes, craft workshops to morning tea and live performances, there is a wide variety of events planned for Seniors Month, offering something for everyone to participate in.
Deputy Mayor and Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Seniors Month is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the vital role seniors play.
“Whether it's through volunteering, caring for others, or simply sharing their wisdom, our seniors contribute in so many meaningful ways and we want to recognise that,” Cr Wickerson said.
“We have a fantastic lineup of activities planned at our libraries and other locations around the Region, as well as a special tribute to Aussie icons Olivia Newton-John and Peter Allen at the Mayor’s Morning Melodies.
“I encourage the community to come together to celebrate and support our seniors and strengthen our connections with them.”
Seniors Month 2024 also encompasses Grandparents Day on 27 October, providing another opportunity for the community to celebrate and honour their elders.
