With just the press of a button, Gracemere’s brand new wet play area at Cedric Archer Park has made an impressive splash at its official opening yesterday.

Complete with giant shade sales, mega soakers, tipping buckets and spray tunnels, the wet play area marks the grand finale of Cedric Archer Park’s $2.35 million upgrade.

Rockhampton Regional Council Acting Mayor Councillor Tony Williams and Divisional Councillor Ellen Smith were joined by more than 600 people eager to try out the new facility.

“The playground and skate park were extremely popular from the moment they opened last year, and now with summer upon us, we are thrilled to be opening the water play area in time for the school holidays – it is without a doubt the icing on the cake,” Cr Williams said.

“Cedric Archer Park definitely tops the list as one of the most colourful and playful parks in our Region, and the best part is there is a great variety of equipment for kids of all ages.”

Divisional Councillor Ellen Smith said there is no doubt the Gracemere community will make full use of the new facility.

“This investment in Cedric Archer Park has been well appreciated by our growing Gracemere families who have been counting down the days to see this project finished,” Cr Smith said.

The $1.3 million Cedric Archer Park water play project was funded as part of the State Government’s Works for Queensland Programme. It supported 26 jobs while creating an additional 19.

Please be advised the park will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday 15 November, so Council can carry out essential maintenance to ensure the park is operating at peak performance for local residents.
