Green Waste and Mulch
Green waste
Green waste is defined as grass trimmings and tree cuttings excluding milled or processed timber, free of metal, plastic or other waste material.
Our rural waste facilities, at Alton Downs, Gracemere, Bajool, Bouldercombe, Bushley and Mount Morgan, accept domestic green waste only.
Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility accepts both domestic and commercial green waste.
Commercial Loads
Waste is classified as commercial if:
- It is generated from a business activity, or
- The person delivering the waste is being paid to do so, or
- The waste does not originate from your principal place of residence.
This includes any waste delivered in vehicles displaying business signage or registered for commercial use.
Domestic Loads
Waste is considered domestic if:
- It originates from your principal place of residence.
Please note: Final classification of loads is at the discretion of gatehouse staff at each facility.
Refer to the FACT SHEET - Waste facilities fees and charges and general site information for more information about green waste charges.
Mulched green waste for domestic use
Mulched green waste is available free of charge to residents, subject to availability, to help improve soil health and water retention of home gardens.
Please note:
- Mulch is self-load only; no machinery or mechanical tools are allowed.
- Site safety guidelines must be followed, including wearing closed-in shoes and suitable protective clothing.
- We recommend wearing a mask to reduce exposure to dust.
Mulch may be available at the following waste facilities:

Please check with individual sites for current availability.
