Come along

There are a number of awareness days and weeks that aim to educate the community on reducing their waste and improving the environment. Here are just a few we support each year.

1 March 2026 | National Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia inspires and empowers communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment. What was started thirty years ago, by an "average Australian bloke" who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event. Rockhampton Regional Council supports this event by offering the first 20 community groups who register a clean-up site by Wednesday 21 February 2023 a $25 voucher to host your own celebratory BBQ, plus any extra equipment, free waste disposal vouchers, garbage truck kerbside collection and guest speaker - share our event flyer(PDF, 207KB)!

Head over to www.cleanup.org.au/create to register your site!

3 - 9 May 2026 | International Compost Awareness Week

International Compost Awareness Week Australia (ICAW), is a week of activities, events and publicity to improve awareness of the importance of  compost, a valuable organic resource and to promote compost use, knowledge and products. We can compost to help scrap carbon pollution by avoiding landfilling organic materials and helping to build healthier soils.

ICAW Australia is an initiative of the Centre for Organic Research & Education (CORE), a not-for-profit organisation conducting year round organic research, education and awareness activities.

Rockhampton Regional Council in collaboration with Resource Recovery Australia is offering FREE public workshops in the Upcycle Village at Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility - join us!
