How do I search Recycle Mate via Council's webpage?

Recycle Mate is available on Council's website with the 'search' and 'map' options found on the 'Sort my waste' page.
You can search the name of an item you would like to know what to do with and Recycle Mate will provide you with your best disposal option. The map allows you to navigate to local community recycling drop-off locations.

How do I download Recycle Mate App on my device?

Recycle Mate App is free to download and use. It is a free resource available to every local council, recycler, product stewardship scheme and charity to get involved and promote their initiatives.

The Recycle Mate App has extra features where you can snap a photo of an item to find out your best disposal option.

  • Using the Recycle Mate App photo feature, make sure the item is the only object in the frame.
  • If your photo doesn’t provide a direct match for your item, switch to typing the item into the search function for the best result.
  • Recycle Mate is even working towards making barcode scanning a feature in the future.

How do I get more help with using Recycle Mate?

If an answer isn’t immediately available, log your question with help@recyclemate.com.au and Recycle Mate will work to find you the answer.

If you have general kerbside recycling and general waste bin enquiries, please contact waste_ed@rrc.qld.gov.au.

How can I find out more about Recycle Mate?

Recycle Mate is an initiative of the Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) with funding support from the Australian Government’s Environment Restoration Fund program and the NSW Government’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Waste Less Recycle More initiative. Adaptation Environmental Support is the program delivery partner.

The opportunity for Queensland Local Governments to work with Recycle Mate was made possible with the support of the Queensland Government.

How can I help build Recycle Mate's item database?

Recycle Mate has functionality in the app that allows any user to take and upload photos to the library. Simply open the Recycle Mate app and click on the purple logo in the top right hand corner. This takes you to the Recycle Soldier function where you can upload photos to improve the program's item database.

Recycle Soldier function is great for school or community groups as a citizen science styled activity.
