Turning Language Skills Into Job Opportunities

Next date: Saturday, 08 August 2026 | 09:00 AM to 02:00 PM

Bilingual residents in Rockhampton are being invited to explore a flexible and in-demand career path at an upcoming free onsite workshop focused on employment opportunities in language services.

The Interpreter Employment Success Program (IESP) will host an interactive workshop designed for bilingual speakers, aspiring and existing interpreters who want to turn their language skills into paid work. This workshop is ideal for people who:

  • Speak two or more languages

  • Are considering a career change or flexible work

  • Are curious about interpreting but unsure where to start

The Program is supported by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) and funded by the Queensland Government. This backing ensures the program aligns with national professional standards while directly responding to workforce needs across Queensland, particularly in regional areas such as North Queensland.

With demand for professional interpreters continuing to grow across health, government, defence, mining, and community services, interpreting offers a career that is flexible, meaningful, and locally relevant.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of:

How interpreting creates real job opportunities in Queensland

  • The different career pathways available within interpreting and language services

  • How to progress through certification and specialisation

  • Employment options beyond freelance work, including in-house and coordination roles

  • The skills needed to build a sustainable and fulfilling interpreting career

Places are limited, and early registration is encouraged.
