Kanaka Proud Cup Rugby League Challenge 2025

The Kanaka Proud Cup is a culturally significant event created to celebrate and honour the heritage of the Australian South Sea Islander (ASSI) community, particularly in Mackay and Rockhampton.

The Kanaka Proud Cup was first held in 2017, initiated by the Mesh & Knots ASSI ATSI Women's Group of Mackay and the men's group Common Thread.

The Cup is more than a rugby league match - it's a community celebration that fosters pride, unity and cultural identity among ASSI people.

The Cup alternates bi-annually between Mackay and Rockhampton, strengthening ties between the two communities and promoting mental health, wellbeing, and cross-cultural awareness.

2025 will see the Australian South Sea Islander United Council - Independent Rockhampton and District Inc. host the Kanaka Proud Cup, come along and enjoy a day of football and celebrating ASSI history and culture.
