Kanaka Proud Cup Rugby League Challenge 2025
Next date: Saturday, 08 November 2025 | 10:00 AM
to 06:30 PM
The Kanaka Proud Cup is a culturally significant event created to celebrate and honour the heritage of the Australian South Sea Islander (ASSI) community, particularly in Mackay and Rockhampton.
- The Kanaka Proud Cup was first held in 2017, initiated by the Mesh & Knots ASSI ATSI Women's Group of Mackay and the men's group Common Thread.
The Cup is more than a rugby league match - it's a community celebration that fosters pride, unity and cultural identity among ASSI people.
The Cup alternates bi-annually between Mackay and Rockhampton, strengthening ties between the two communities and promoting mental health, wellbeing, and cross-cultural awareness.
2025 will see the Australian South Sea Islander United Council - Independent Rockhampton and District Inc. host the Kanaka Proud Cup, come along and enjoy a day of football and celebrating ASSI history and culture.
