Rockhampton Regional Council is calling on the community to support the annual Homeless Connect event to be held 18 May this year.

2022 saw the successful return of the event (after a two-year absence) with 135 community members taking advantage of the one-stop-shop service that the event provides.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Homeless Connect has an impressive track record of helping vulnerable members of our community.

“Since the first Homeless Connect event in 2010, almost 6000 people have accessed support through this event,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Whether it is picking up a hamper, to getting a haircut, enjoying a home cooked meal, oral and eye checks, the event will provide a range of services on the day.

“This event connects our those in our community who are experiencing hardship to a network of support agencies.

“Whether its help finding accommodation, pastoral care, to health and financial advice and much more, there is always a wealth of support and knowledge that people can tap into at this event.

“We are calling on the community to assist by providing donations which will be made up into hampers to give out on the day.

“Things like non-perishable food items, toiletries, female hygiene products, shoes, clothing and linen are always very much appreciated.”

Donations can be dropped at the following locations:

  • All food, toiletry and female hygiene products can be delivered to the School of Arts Building at 230 Bolsover Street between 9am-4pm Monday to Friday until 5 May 2023.
  • Clothing, shoes, linen can be delivered to Jacks House at 122 Kent Street Rockhampton between 7am-7pm Monday to Friday until 5 May 2023.
