Local residents and businesses in Norman Gardens and surrounding suburbs are set to reap the benefits as Rockhampton Regional Council start work next week linking River Rose Drive.

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said this much talked about missing link has now reached construction stage and will benefit both commuters and businesses.

“This work will link Norman Road and the Bruce Highway together which will ease pressure on other parts of the traffic network which currently connect those two roads,” Cr Smith said.

“Aside from being better for commuters and businesses, it also increases access for emergency services by reducing the time it takes them to reach some of those areas, so this really is a win for the whole community.

“By increasing linkages around our road network, it spreads the commuter load more evenly so we will naturally see improvements to traffic flows which will reduce your time in the car and give you more time at your destination or home.

“The scope is quite substantial, so the work is going to take about six months to complete subject to weather and ground conditions.

“Council crews will be building a new road, stormwater services, and a roundabout with a connection point for a future extension to Stringybark Avenue, Norman Gardens.

“We’ve designed the works so that there is limited to no impact on the surrounding properties and businesses. If you are in the area, we advise that you please obey all signage and exercise caution while these works are going on.

Divisional Councillor Shane Latcham said he is excited to see this project come to fruition and open up the road network.

“Connecting River Rose Drive has always been a part of our traffic network plan, and I am keen to see works begin next week,” Cr Latcham said.

"This road construction will create another route which should ease congestion on other busy roads and commuters who use these roads are going to notice a real difference in terms of less congestion at certain peak times.

"I want to thank the community in advance for their patience whilst we undertake these works to deliver this essential linkage."
