Theatrical magic, fierce wit and faux French accents combine in this classic twisted tale!
A show coming to the Pilbeam Theatre in June puts its own hilarious spin on events that may or may not have happened over 3000 years ago, when the city of Troy was conquered by the Greeks.
The Trojan War twists the tale of the Trojan horse and the events leading up to the fall of Troy into a hilarious play, created by New Zealand theatre troupe, A Slightly Isolated Dog. The show marks the debut performance of the troupe on the Pilbeam Theatre stage.
When Paris, son of the King of Troy is born, it is prophesied that he will bring about the destruction of the city. To avoid this fate, he is sent away to be sacrificed. But this starts a series of events that will inevitably lead to the destiny his parents were so desperately trying to avoid.
Described as being ‘theatre that doesn’t feel like theatre’ the play features a cast of faux French performers in a work that includes theatrical magic, wicked pop songs and fierce wit.
Five actors, one Trojan horse and some volunteers from the audience condense the events of ten years into a more concentration span-friendly 70 minutes.
Contrary to the epic nature of the work, the Pilbeam Theatre show will be performed with both audience and performers on stage, giving an up close and personal view of the action. Seating, on three sides of the performance space, is limited.
The Trojan War contains coarse language and adult themes and is suitable for ages 15+. The show does involve opportunities for audience participation, but this is voluntary.
The Trojan War, presented by Rockhampton Regional Council, will be held on stage at the Pilbeam Theatre on Thursday 12 June at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now from the Pilbeam Theatre Box Office and www.seeitlive.com.au
