Organics Processing Facility next step for FOGO rollout

Rockhampton Regional Council is taking a pivotal step forward in its Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) business case to see the kerbside collection rolled out in the future.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) for an Organics Processing Facility will open in early January 2024, following a successful FOGO trial which highlighted the need for managing organic waste within our community.

Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said the establishment of an Organics Processing Facility will form a major part of our FOGO business case to help overcome any key challenges and barriers we may face as we work towards the FOGO rollout.

“The EOI will aim to identify organic processing solutions that are suitable for the Rockhampton Region, whilst also complying with all legislative and licencing requirements,” Cr Latcham said.

“An Organics Processing Facility is a location where garden organics and food scraps are processed and converted into other valuable products, such as compost or fertiliser.

“Council is inviting businesses and organisations to consider submitting an Expressions of Interest (EOI) from January 2024 for an Organics Processing Solution.

“We appreciate the variety of possible solutions and encourage responses from providers of all sizes, including both larger enterprises and smaller, specialised services.

“As part of the EOI process, respondents will also be required to submit separate proposals for the processing solutions of both FOGO and GO wastes, with the optional inclusion of self-haul unprocessed green waste.

“EOI submissions will be shortlisted and those selected will become eligible to participate in the written tender process.”

Submissions will open January 2024.
