Earlier this week Rockhampton Mayor Tony Williams and CEO Evan Pardon welcomed Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Assistant Minister for Regional Development Senator Anthony Chisholm to Rockhampton.

Mayor Williams said it was fantastic to sit down and have a chat about our region and the challenges and opportunities here.

“At Council we’re committed to working with all levels of government to ensure the best outcomes for our community,” Mayor Williams said.

“This was a fantastic early step in developing some great relationships with members of the new Federal Government.

“The Treasurer has said before that he wants to ensure that the voice of regional Queensland is represented in Canberra.

“I was glad to have an opportunity to speak to him about the matters that are important to us here – including defence, election commitments and water and sewerage infrastructure.

“It was a pleasure to have a chance for the CEO and I to catch up with the Treasurer and Senator Chisholm, and I look forward to continuing to work with all members of the new government.”
