After months of preparation, the Music and Drama Company’s Singapore Sizzle festival opens at the Rockhampton Showgrounds this Saturday.

The free event is a celebration of the arts, community and the strong friendship between Singapore and Central Queensland. It features 11 hours of free entertainment including cultural performances, markets, performances by artists from Singapore and Australia, all rounded off by a stunning fireworks finale.

The festival is not just for music lovers, but foodies too. Attendees will receive a voucher for a Singaporean tasting platter crafted by MasterChef Australia Season 10 winner Sashi Cheliah – while stocks last! Food vans will also be on site selling a variety of tasty fare.

The day kicks off at 10am in the Robert Schwarten Pavilion with Artisan’s Markets as well as performances on the Cultural Stage.

From 2pm until 9pm, the Main Stage on the Cremorne Lawn is the place to be, with Singaporean artistes RINES, Gail Belmonte and Dominic Chin, alongside Aussie favourites Kate Mahood, The Shortfall and CQ Battle of the Bands winners Lost Cargo.

Headline act, Filipino-Australian sensation grentperez, fresh from his UK / Europe tour, rounds off the Singapore Sizzle lineup, before the fireworks finale.

Entry is free with proceeds from merchandise sales and donations going to local charity Hands of Compassion World Aid Inc.

Presented by the Music and Drama Company (MDC), and supported by Rockhampton Regional Council, the free festival marks two major milestones - Singapore’s 60th year of independence and the 35th anniversary of the first Exercise Wallaby.

“We have a really important relationship with Singapore and the Singaporean Armed Forces which has been forged over many years.

“This is going to be a great opportunity to celebrate that relationship and the milestones we have reached in 2025 as well as enjoy each other’s culture, art and music.

“I really encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the event and make this a really great day out.”
