Libraries across the Region will extend their opening hours as of Monday 28 June.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said this is great news for members, especially with the return of Saturdays.

“We know that some of our members have been eagerly looking forward to coming back on Saturdays, especially our families,” Cr Wickerson said.

“We will open 9am- 3pm Saturdays at the Southside Library, while Northside, Gracemere and Mount Morgan will re-open 9am-12.00pm.

“The new opening hours will ensure our customers have even more access to our fantastic resources and that is good news!

“There have been some other extensions and changes to opening hours across all our libraries, so I would encourage all members to check the website or give our library staff a call, if you would like to find out the opening times for your local library.

“The decision to restrict opening hours after COVID was not a decision that was made lightly.

“We looked very carefully at what were statistically the quietest times and that is something we have continued to do with the new changes in place.

“Our focus has always been to deliver the best possible service to our customers while minimising disruption as much as possible.

“We do appreciate though, that our restricted hours have not been ideal and we are thankful for your patience during this time, and in the next transition to some extended opening hours.”
