Homeless Connect food donations needed

Homeless connect donations

Residents across our region have demonstrated their overwhelming generosity, with Council stunned by the amount of bedding, clothing, and toiletries given ahead the Homeless Connect event. However there is one type of donation still needed: food.

Communities Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said the response so far had been amazing.

“The support we have received is quite something, and demonstrates just what a generous community we have here in our region.

“We have so many clothes and so much bedding that we can’t actually accept any more ahead of the event.

“However, we are in desperate need of food. For some reason we have received far fewer food donations than in previous years, and obviously it’s something that homeless people in our area really do need.

“I am appealing to our residents: if you can afford it, please to buy a couple of extra things next time you do a food shop. Whether it’s some cans of food, some long life milk, fruit cups or something else – a little item can make a big difference.”

Food donations can be delivered to the School of Arts, 230 Bolsover Street, or any of our Libraries (Mount Morgan, Gracemere, Southside and Northside) until 5pm on Monday 23rd of July.

The Homeless Connect event takes place on 26 July.
