Get your green thumbs ready - Council’s Native Plant Program is back
Published on 22 July 2025
Rockhampton Regional Council’s Native Plant Program is back! Council is giving away native plants to residents this week, to help bring nature back to local gardens.
From today, Tuesday, 22 July to Thursday, 24 July, residents will be able to collect two free native plants for their household.
Native plants provide food and shelter for wildlife, give the region its unique character and provide a cooler and more attractive environment for us to live in.
This year’s species are Blue flax lily, Thyme honey-myrtle, Yellow tea tree and Orange boxwood.
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting started, these native species are perfect for building habitat and beautifying your garden.
Plants will be available from:
- Rockhampton Southside Library (open 9am - 5.30pm)
- Gracemere Customer Service Centre (open 9am - 4.30pm)
- Mount Morgan Customer Service Centre (open 9am - 4.30pm)
Native Plant Program is a popular initiative, delivered during the week leading into National Tree Day each year.
The program complements Council’s commitment to increasing canopy cover, with Council’s Parks team planting semi-advanced trees in preparation for National Tree Day as well as more than 300 new trees in parks and open spaces in the last year.
