Council is seeking final feedback on the Rockhampton Region Planning Scheme, with the public consultation period closing Friday, 28 November.

This consultation marks the next stage in Council’s comprehensive review of the Planning Scheme.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said the review is ensuring the updated Scheme continues to reflect the community’s long-term goals and planning needs.

“The Planning Scheme plays a vital role in guiding how our region grows and develops, and community feedback is key to getting it right,” Cr Mathers said.

“We want to know how easy the current Scheme is to use and understand, and what parts might need improvement.

“We’re also asking whether the Scheme reflects the region’s long-term goals, along with any other ideas or suggestions you’d like to share.

“It’s one of the most important tools we have to guide land use and development, so all feedback is valued.”

Cr Mathers said the review has already highlighted opportunities to make the Scheme easier to navigate.

“We’ve heard some great feedback so far - from people wanting more housing choice, more green spaces, and suggestions about rural lot sizes and how they might be managed in the future”, Cr Mathers said.

“This type of feedback helps us refine the Scheme so it not only supports economic growth and development, but also enhances liveability for current and future generations.”

Consultation closes on Friday, 28 November 2025.

Once reviewed, a Major Amendment will be lodged with the State Government and a formal submission period of the proposed changes will follow in 2026.
