Preparing your Application

Your application should include:

  • A current Resume;
  • A cover letter outlining your suitability for the position;
  • Copies of any tickets or qualifications.

It is preferred that documents to be attached to your job application are in a PDF format however DOC (Word) format will also be accepted.

If you do not have access to a computer or internet at home you can apply for a vacant position on your iPad or mobile telephone using Wi-Fi or you can use Council's free public computers located at our regions Libraries. Locations and opening times can be found on the website.

Cover Letter

An optional cover letter template(DOCX, 13KB) has been provided to assist you in completing your application.

For the selection panel to consider your application you are to demonstrate your suitability for the position.

Prior to preparing your cover letter, read through the job advertisement and position description to understand the requirements of the position.

Your cover letter should outline how you meet the Application Criteria within the job advertisement. Ensure you use examples relevant to the position responsibilities and requirements throughout your application.

When outlining the Application Criteria in your cover letter, you will be required to title each criteria so that your suitability for the position is clear to the selection panel to determine your suitability for the position.

When applying for positions at Council your cover letter will automatically save to your profile. The Application Criteria may change between jobs you are applying for therefore please ensure you update and check that your cover letter is applicable to the position you are currently applying for and addresses the correct criteria.

Resume

It is compulsory to submit a current resume which should include:

  • Contact details;
  • Employment history;
  • Qualifications, tickets, licences and training;
  • Professional memberships (optional).

Referees

You will be required to provide two current work related referees that you have reported to and who will have firsthand knowledge of your work performance.

If you have not yet entered the workforce you can provide two referees that are your teachers/lecturers, sports coaches and/or work experience/volunteer supervisors.

Referees will only be contacted by the panel after the interview process. The panel will confirm referee details at interview to ensure they are current.

Closing Date

Applications are to be submitted through the online recruitment system before the closing date. The position will automatically be removed from Council’s website on the closing date advised on the job advertisement. Late applications cannot be submitted online.

Email or hard copy applications will not be accepted. All applications are to be submitted electronically.

Lodging your application

All applications are to be submitted online at https://jobs.rrc.qld.gov.au/jobs

Once you select the job you would like to apply for click the ‘Apply’ icon. You will then be prompted to create a profile. Your profile will require a unique email address which cannot be used by friends/relatives to create their profile as it will contain your personal information. Free email addresses are available online.

You will only be required to create a profile on our online recruitment system once however, ensure all details are kept up to date and relevant to the position you are applying for prior to submitting a new job application.

You will then be required to follow the prompts when submitting your application. As part of your application you will be required to upload a resume and cover letter in Word or PDF format (PDF preferred).

Signing Up to Job Alerts

You can keep up to date with all Council’s job vacancies by signing up to job alerts. You will receive an email to notify you when a job suited to you becomes available.

  1. Access Council's recruitment portal.
  2. Create a recruitment profile or sign in to your account.
  3. Under the Job Alert section, click the '+Add Alert' button.
  4. Fill in all relevant fields by selecting the type of job you're interested in.
  5. Press the save button.

Withdrawing an Application

If you have decided to withdraw your application for a position you can remove your application anytime throughout the recruitment process. Once your application has been withdrawn, you will not be able to reapply for the position.

  1. Access Council’s recruitment portal.
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Under the My Applications section, select the application you would like to withdraw.
  4. Press the 'Withdraw' button.
  5. You will be required to submit the reason for withdrawing your application.
  6. Press the 'Withdraw' button.

Your application has now been withdrawn.

Deleting Your Profile

You are able to delete your recruitment profile at any time. If you delete your profile you will be required to create a new profile for any future job applications.

  1. Access Council’s recruitment portal.
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Select your name in the top right hand corner.
  4. In the drop down box select 'Delete Account'.
  5. You will be required to submit the reason for deleting your profile.
  6. Press the ‘Delete Account’ button.
  7. Your account has now been deleted.

Recruitment Process

Shortlisting

Rockhampton Regional Council promotes a merit based selection and equal opportunity for all positions. All applications are reviewed by a selection panel. The recruitment panel use a number of selection tools to determine the most suitable candidate for the position.

Applicants who best meet the selection criteria will be invited to interview with the selection panel and will be notified by the Recruitment team via phone call. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email. 

The Interview

The interview will consist of a number of questions based on the position requirements. The interview questions are designed to draw out examples of your previous experience and behaviours.

Through the interview the selection panel is establishing whether you possess the necessary skills, qualifications and attributes to perform the duties and requirements of the position or in some cases, the potential to acquire these skills.

You are to bring original qualifications, certificates, licences or competencies to your interview for the selection panel to review.

Pre-Employment Assessments

There are a number of Pre-Employment assessments that may be undertaken through the recruitment process if required for the position.

Pre-Employment assessments may include, but are not limited to: Criminal History, Blue Card Validity, Psychometric Testing, Right to Work in Australia, Functional Capacity Evaluation, Verification of Competency for Mobile Plant and Equipment, Audiometry Testing and/or Drug and Alcohol Testing.

The Recruitment team will contact you to arrange any appointments for pre-employment assessments if a requirement of the position you have applied for. You may be requested to provide further documentation for the purpose of pre-employment assessments.
