The Rockhampton Airport Solar project will deliver a 976kW solar system at the Rockhampton Airport Terminal.
The Rockhampton Airport is critical regional infrastructure that is owned and operated by Rockhampton Regional Council, supporting 600,000 passenger movements through the Rockhampton Region each year.
The installation of behind-the-meter solar will reduce grid energy usage by around 1,750,000 kWh per annum and save up to 1,600 tCO2e - tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent - per year.
The project supports the Reef 2050 Plan objective of ‘limiting the impacts of climate change’ by providing renewable energy to lead our community by example and cost-effectively accelerate the local transition towards net zero emissions. Importantly, the project will provide the approvals and infrastructure required for airport tenants such as Alliance Airlines, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service to also install solar systems to reduce their energy consumption.
Construction will be undertaken by local contractor NRG Industrial, with works carefully planned to avoid disruptions to the airport.
Grant Funding: $920,000 (Australian Government’s Reef Guardian Councils - Activating Local Council’s Reef Action Plans Program. )
