Weather event impact update

Based on the most recent advice from the Bureau of Meteorology this morning, the Tropical Low in the Coral Sea has changed trajectory and is now predicted to move further inland.
Rockhampton Regional Council will continue to monitor the system closely, with the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) remaining on Alert.
As a precautionary measure, Council will still provide sand in various locations across the Region.
Residents can fill their own bags at four locations from tomorrow afternoon, Thursday 25 January.
- Bridge Street near Stapleton Park,
- Dean Street opposite Mason Street,
- Near Showgrounds, Corner of Graeme Acton Way and Sir Raymond Huish Drive opposite swimming pool,
- In the car park at Gracemere Swimming Pool,
- Pattison Street (between Central Street and East Street) Mount Morgan, across from the Council Depot.
Local Disaster Management Chair, Mayor Tony Williams said despite the Tropical Low's downgraded forecast, Council is erring on the side of caution.
“As always, weather can be very unpredictable, so we are encouraging residents to be aware, but not alarmed at this stage and to monitor the weather system,” Mayor Williams said.
“We can never truly be 100% prepared for a natural disaster, but being aware of the risks and adequately preparing will go a long way in helping to protect you, your family, and your home.
"Residents are also being reminded that the sand is for those who are most at risk of flooding."
