Rockhampton Regional Council has teamed up with two local vets and national charity Paws for a Purpose again this year, to deliver the annual voucher program for pet owners across the Region.

Known as ‘Vac and Chip’, the program offers eligible residents with discounted vaccinations and microchipping for their pet dogs.

Councillor for Planning and Regulation, Grant Mathers, said he was thrilled to see such an important program on offer once again.

“Vac and Chip officially recommences from this Friday, and we’re incredibly proud to be rolling the program out again this year,” Cr Mathers said.

“Overall, the Vac and Chip is designed to give a helping hand to pet owners who are doing things a little tough.

“We know that many pet owners want to do what’s best for their dog but that covering the cost of vaccinations and microchipping can be a challenge.

“Vaccinations normally cost around $100, and puppies need three of those in their first four months, plus a booster every year thereafter.

“Microchipping is an additional cost to that again, so it’s easy to see why people struggle with these kinds of fees at times.

“Through the program, eligible residents are able to have their dogs vaccinated for $15 and microchipped for $10 – so that’s a huge subsidy.

“It’s our way of helping local residents give their pets the best possible care they need and I want to thank Paws for a Purpose for teaming up with Council again this year, and the local vet clinics who have come on board.”

Participating vets include:

  • Alma Street Veterinary Hospital; and
  • Capricorn Veterinary Surgery
