North Rockhampton’s All Blacks Park is now home to a brand new parking area which replaces its dirt predecessor.

A formalised, bitumen sealed area was completed for the park at the end of June and is already proving to be a hit.

Mayor Tony Williams said the new car park has now provided the sports field with a user friendly space for parking.

“The works were carried out by Council at a total cost of $97,000,” Mayor William said.

“This has been a project on Council’s radar for some time and it’s fantastic to see it come to fruition.

“It may seem like a minor thing to some people, but the new car park has made life much easier for the community when visiting the park.”

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said the upgrade also addresses wet weather issues that visitors would have previously faced.

“Formerly, the car park was a dirt area with loose gravel which would provide quite a challenge for vehicles during wet weather,” Cr Smith said.

“To address the wet weather issues we ensured the pavement in the car park was spray sealed to ensure water can’t get into the pavement.

"The project is also both economically and environmentally conscious – the material used for the pavement layer has been made from recycled materials.”

Divisional Councillor Grant Mathers said the car park has been a wonderful addition to the community facility.

“In the past 12 months we have seen some great improvements at All Blacks Park,” Cr Mathers said.

“Not only has the car park been done, a concrete slab was installed last year for the mobile skate ramp that also serves as a half court, and we are currently in the process of reinstating the irrigation at the park.

“I’m sure everyone can agree that it’s fantastic to see this great park getting some attention.”

All Blacks Park is located at 291 Lakes Creek Road, Koongal.
