Summer School Holiday fun in the Region

Spring into summer fun this holiday break with Rockhampton Regional Council’s school holiday program.
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said Council is bringing a stacked summer school holiday program to the community, filled with opportunities to learn, have fun, and spend quality time with friends and family.
“We’re running a number of activities at Rockhampton Zoo, Heritage Village, Rockhampton Libraries, Rockhampton Museum of Art (RMOA) and more,” Mayor Williams said.
Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said there is a diverse range of low-cost or no-cost activities and something for everyone, from animal encounters to Christmas crafter-noon workshops and historical tours.
“For our animal lovers - take a trip to the Rockhampton Zoo and meet the amazing animals and hear about each at the keeper talks,” Cr Wickerson said.
“Entry to the zoo is free, and there are also paid activities available including Junior Zookeeper and Animal Encounters.
“For our history buffs and explorers - take a step back in time and experience life in the past at the Heritage Village. You can visit the old schoolhouse, take a stroll around the village, or stop in at the general store.
“Unleash your creativity at the Rockhampton Regional Libraries with Christmas card, Origami and Christmas Crafternoon workshops, enjoy Sing, Read & Play sessions, Lego challenges, colouring competitions, STEAM and trivia sessions and much more.
“You can also borrow books, DVDs, magazines and games to enjoy at home or head along to one of the four library branches to escape the heat and enjoy the facilities.
“You and your family can tap into your artistic side by heading along to the Rockhampton Museum of Art to enjoy free school holiday activities, running daily from 9.30am - 12.30pm where you can create your own work of art inspired by the phenomenal RMOA artwork collection.
"Join RMOA staff, volunteers and guest speakers on free talks and tours through the current exhibitions or check out the shop for some Christmas gift ideas which boasts both local and national artists.”
Mayor Tony Williams said there is the introduction of a brand-new event this year with some family favourites also returning.
“As of the 1st of December, the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens is awaken nightly for the spectacular RADIANCE Rockhampton Christmas-themed sound and light experience,” Mayor Williams said.
“Running until Christmas Eve, you’ll be immersed in holograms, lasers, interactive projections, light sculptures, soundscapes, and many other sensory mediums. There will also be mystical creatures unveiled along the way.
“You can also head along to Carols by Candlelight this weekend, 9th of December at the Rockhampton Music Bowl, for a musical time
“The highly anticipated ‘Lights of Christmas’ light display will once again grace St Joseph's Cathedral with its enchanting glow.
“The light show will play approximately six times per night from 17th of December until 23rd of December. It is a free event for all to attend thanks to the generous support of a number of local sponsors and Council’s Community Assistance Program.
“Make sure you also check out the Community Event Calendar on Council’s website to see what local groups and clubs are offering these holidays.
