It’s time to hit the ground running and get training for the annual 7Rocky River Run with early bird registrations now open!

The event will be held on June 30 with the same stunning riverside route as last year.

Australian athlete and middle-distance runner, Tamsyn Lewis, and Creek to Coast presenter, Scott Hillier, were today announced as ambassadors for this years’ event.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council was proud to take on the role of managing the event this year.

“Thanks to the hard work of previous hosts, Rotary and CTC, this event has made a name for itself and is one of the ‘must do’ running competitions in the State - and that’s something we should be very proud of and will continue to build upon as new hosts of the event,” Mayor Strelow said.

“One way of doing this, is by deliberately moving this year’s event to June 30. Traditionally, it is held in late May, however this is also the same time as other major running events in Queensland, so by changing the date we can attract more competitors and grow the River Run even further.”

Seven Queensland General Manager, Mr Ben Roberts-Smith, said growing the 7Rocky River Run event was a key priority for the Network.

“Seven Central Queensland is thrilled to be back on board as naming rights sponsor of the 7Rocky River Run event. The Seven Rocky River Run has become one of the key events on the Central Queensland calendar and continues to provide a much needed economic boost to the region,” Mr Roberts-Smith said.

“Seven are committed to ensuring our contribution grows in 2019 and through our partnership with the Rockhampton Regional Council, we’re confident this will now be possible.”

Registrations are open for the four distances - 2km, 5km, 10km and 21km.

Jason Crowther from Atlas Multisport said prize money for this years’ event is over of $10,000!

“The 2019 course will again be fast and scenic with stunning river views and bridge crossings. The start and finish of the course will be on Quay Street in front of Customs House with runners greeted to a rockstar finish,” Mr Crowther said.

“Prize money for the event is in excess of $10,000 making it one of the largest prize purses of any regional running event in Queensland.”

Last year, Reece Edwards set a new record in the Men’s half marathon, crossing the line at 1:07:17.

The 7Rocky River Run raises funds for the Rockhampton community including funds to address youth mental health issues and the prevention of youth suicide as well as supporting young families that need to travel to Brisbane for life saving surgery and treatment that is not available in Central Queensland.
