Ridgelands Campdraft puts Rockhampton on map for Easter Weekend
Published on 17 April 2025
Ridgelands will once again be the place to be this Easter weekend as more than 700 people converge to compete, catch up and cut loose at the Ridgelands Campdraft.
One of the most popular drafts on the Queensland calendar, Ridgelands Campdraft brings competitors and families from all over the State, and with free entry and non-stop action, it’s also a great Easter weekend activity.
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said Council is proud to support the Campdraft with a $5,000 Community Assistance Program grant.
“Council’s support of Ridgelands Campdraft will bring tangible benefits to the Ridgelands community and the Rockhampton region,” Mayor Williams said
“The Ridgelands Campdraft is a well-loved event on our region’s calendar and we have been proud to support the Campdraft for the past five years through the Community Assistance Program.
“Competitors travel from as far afield as Dalby, Alpha, Mackay and Roma to compete, bringing their families and friends to enjoy everything our region has to offer, from retail and rural stores to restaurants.
“Ridgelands State School cater for the event each year with all profits going back to their P&C, so it is an event that enriches the community in many ways.”
Mayor Williams said Council has provided nearly $200,000 this year to support more than twenty events like this.
“It is so critical to support local events that are driven and lead by strong community clubs and not-for-profit groups.
“It is great to see people who are committed to growing their sport and creating lasting results for the whole region.”
Communities, Culture and Heritage Portfolio Councillor and Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said it will be an action-packed weekend of campdrafting and cutting for enthusiasts and first-timers.
“The popularity of Ridgelands Campdraft is growing with waiting lists to compete. We encourage community members to head out to enjoy the event,” Cr Wickerson said
“There will be free entry all weekend, non-stop competition, a bar operating each night and live music on Saturday night, making it a great way to spend your Easter weekend.”
Ridgelands Campdraft and Rodeo Association President Mr Les Hopkins said funding from Rockhampton Regional Council was very important to help ensure the draft is a financial success, which then allows upgrades to the Ridgelands Showgrounds.
“In the last few years, we have replaced the old wooden arena with a new steel one making it much safer and purchased and installed a new toilet and shower block for our competitors who camp over the weekend,” Mr Hopkins said.
“The feedback we receive is amazing and we have people from all over the state wanting to come.
“I would encourage campdraft enthusiasts to come and watch some of the best drafting they will see anywhere.
“And if you are interested in seeing what campdrafting is all about, come out with the kids, as it is free to enter. There will be plenty of horses and action to see, with full catering on ground.”
Ridgelands Campdraft runs from 10am Thursday 17 April to Sunday 20 April at Ridgelands Showgrounds, 79 Dalma Ridgelands Road, Ridgelands.
Competition action runs from 10am Thursday 17 April until late and 6am until late Friday until Sunday. For more information visit Ridgelands Campdraft Facebook page
