The final round of the Regional Arts Development Fund for 2016/17 has awarded $3726 worth of funding for a community radio play and professional development at an international contemporary art fair.

The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and local Councils across the state.

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said she was delighted that RADF had supported our local Arts industry with more than $60,000 in funding in the past financial year.

“Several times a year RADF supports our local artists, performers, craftspeople and groups with financial assistance for their community events, workshops or professional development to help others,” Cr Swadling said.

“This past financial year, funding was awarded to the tune of $60,551 which has been enormously beneficial for people involved in our local Arts industry.

“The most recent allocation of $3726 will contribute towards a night of live radio plays with local performers, as well as for a local artist to attend the Sydney Contemporary, Australasia’s premier international art fair.

“We’re very thankful for the State Government’s continued support for our local Arts industry through RADF, which of course has wonderful flow on benefits for our community so they can enjoy live performances, exhibitions, community events or gain better skills, knowledge and understanding of the Arts with workshops and courses.”

Queensland Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said RADF delivered on the Queensland Government’s commitment to foster diverse and inclusive communities, grow strong regions and provide training, education, and employment opportunities for Queenslanders.

“The Queensland Government is contributing $2.08 million to leverage up to $1.92 million from local councils resulting in up to $4 million available to support arts and cultural activities throughout the state in 2016–17,” the Premier said.

“This funding promotes the role and value of arts, culture and heritage as key drivers of inclusive communities and strong regions and ensures Queenslanders can engage with arts locally,” she said.

“Each year around 500,000 people are involved in RADF projects as practitioners, participants or audience members.”
