Popular CBD Façade Improvement Scheme to be extended

Published on 20 July 2017

Rockhampton CBD property owners will have further opportunity to transform their shop fronts through Rockhampton Regional Council’s Façade Improvement Scheme.

Council has resolved to continue the scheme which was introduced as a trial in September 2016, and to also extend it to additional streets in the Rockhampton CBD area.

Division 6 Councillor Drew Wickerson said the scheme had received great uptake throughout its trial and that he was thrilled to see such a positive program continue.

“Rockhampton is fortunate to be blessed with many fine examples of period commercial architecture throughout our CBD. Council understands however that meeting the high costs involved with upgrading and beautifying these gracious old buildings can be difficult and this is what has inspired us to introduce and now extend this highly successful scheme,” Cr Wickerson said.

“It’s a big part of Council’s ongoing commitment to revitalise the Rockhampton CBD. The scheme encourages building owners to invest in their properties with a portion of renovations costs covered through Council grant funding.

“There has been a great interest in this scheme over the past eight months and the results to date are stunning.”
