Step in to Old worlds, new worlds and other worlds this week as Rockhampton Regional Libraries celebrate Children’s Book Week 21-27 August 2021.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said this year’s theme is sure to fire up the imaginations of the young, and the young at heart.

“What a great theme this year that covers the past, present and future, as well as fantasy and alien ‘other’ worlds,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Our library staff will be getting into the spirit and dressing up as well as showcasing some of the wonderful literature tying in with this year’s theme.

“This time of year is always busy at schools across the Region with kids parading as their favourite characters – so if you are looking for inspiration, our libraries are a great place to start.

“While we may not have Capricon this year – there is still a chance for you to don your favourite costume and get into the spirit at your local libraries.

“Why not get dressed up and drop into your local branch during Children’s Book Week?

“Whether you’re a serious historical re-enactor or cos-player, a retro fashionista or goth, or just love dressing up for the fun of it, take a selfie in the library and share your interpretation of Old worlds, new worlds, other worlds.

Each year since 1945 the Children’s Book Council Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.”
