Rockhampton Regional Council will be kicking off the festive season this weekend with the installation of Christmas decorations in the CBD.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said with the holiday season imminent, Council is keen to get into the festive spirit and install their annual Christmas decorations.

“There will be temporary road closures in place from 6pm Sunday 27 November to 6am Monday 28 November whilst crews install the decorations,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Quay Street, between Denham and William Streets, and East Street, between Fitzroy and William Streets, will be closed to the public during this time. The lefthand turning lane from the Fitzroy Bridge into East Street will also be closed.

“Whilst works are in progress motorists are asked to drive slowly to minimise the risk of accidents, exercise caution and observe all signs and traffic controller directions.

“The Christmas decorations are always a welcome addition to the CBD and are a family favourite.

“I am looking forward to seeing the CBD decked out during the holiday season.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the short closure may cause and request that commuters use alternative routes where possible.”
