Council welcomes support for key projects ahead of State Election

With two days until the Queensland State Election, Rockhampton Regional Council has welcomed a number of commitments from candidates following the release of Council’s election wish list.

Acting Mayor Tony Williams said Council had identified several key priorities across the region and it was incredible pleasing to see cross party support on some issues.

“From the LNP committing $130 million to Rookwood Weir to the ALP pledging to develop modern boating facilities at Port Alma, these are fantastic commitments from our candidates to improve our region,” Acting Mayor Williams said.

“We have also seen commitments towards a shade sail at Kershaw Gardens from the LNP with the ALP committing funding towards the Mount Archer Activation Plan.

“It was especially pleasing to read in The Morning Bulletin this morning that all four Mirani candidates support the reopening of the Dinosaur Caverns in Mount Morgan, which is an absolutely incredible tourism opportunity for our region.

“Those projects that receive cross-party support always have the greatest chance of progressing once the election dust settles and, with two days to go, we hope there are still more announcements to come.

“We are still looking for funding to implement Stage 2 of the North Rockhampton Flood Management Area which will protect another 97 homes and I urge all candidates to consider this in the next two days.

“It is important that we continue to fight for our region as much as possible in the lead up to the election to ensure our region is firmly on the political agenda of the successful government once the election is done with,” Acting Mayor Williams said.
