Advance Rockhampton has landed another major success from its Fishing the Fitzroy campaign with today’s launch of a brand new River Cruise charter.

Craig Robertson is the owner of River Cruises CQ. He has launched the service in addition to his already successful fishing charter business, Reel Fishing CQ, which he launched three months ago.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said the addition of a brand new offering for the Fitzroy was another sign of growing confidence in the recreational fishing sector.

“I have to commend Advance Rockhampton on the work they have done to help Craig getting not only his fishing charter business but this river cruise up and running in such a short time,” Mayor Strelow said.

“We’ve gone from one fishing charter boat to ten in just one year and I have no doubt this River Cruise is the start of even more experiences that will be offered on the Fitzroy River in future.

“This is a clear example of the confidence we are seeing in Rockhampton at the moment and Advance Rockhampton is doing an excellent job working with business to grow what our region can offer and help them market themselves to wider audiences,” Mayor Strelow said.

Owner Craig Robertson said there was no doubt there was a demand for the tour service on top of the fishing side already being offered.

“We’ve actually already taken bookings for Christmas Parties and New Year’s Eve so it’s about the best start we could have hoped for with Rockhampton already supporting us,” Mr Robertson said.

“It’s all come about pretty quickly. I attended one of the Advance Rockhampton meetings at the start of the year after growing up in the industry and it’s been full throttle since.

“I found a boat and launched the fishing charter side a few months ago and kept getting the feedback people wanted something different to enjoy the river. I saw the gap in the market so we got another boat and here we are with River Cruises CQ,” Mr Robertson said.

The 30ft pontoon boat will see a guided tour of the river for sunset cruises or private parties of up to 10 people. Bookings and prices are available at www.reelfishingcq.com.au.
