The project involves the construction of approximately 8.6 kilometres of new 375 mm ductile iron cement lined (DICL) sewer rising main between the South Rockhampton and Gracemere Sewage Treatment Plants, along with a new 250 mm treated effluent main that will connect to the existing effluent network in the future. 

Due to the length and nature of the project, construction activities will progress through different locations in stages as work fronts move.  Where possible, a combined trench construction methodology will be used to minimise disruption.

At present, construction activities are focused along Fiddes Street and Jellicoe Street, Port Curtis.  Works are expected to continue in this area through to late 2026, subject to weather conditions, ground conditions, and construction progress. 

Temporary traffic impacts may occur in active work zones, including reduced speed limits, lane closures, road closures, traffic control, and short-term access changes.  Property access will be maintained where possible, and advance notice will be provided for any significant changes. 

The works involve trenching and installation of new underground pipelines.  FRW asks motorists, pedestrians, and residents to take care when travelling through construction areas and follow all traffic signage and directions.
