Plants are the new pets, so come down and support the ‘Rockhampton Friends of the Gardens’ volunteer group by purchasing a plant at their plant sale this Saturday!

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the cash-only plant sale is being held at Council’s Nursery at the Kershaw Gardens depot, entry via Charles St from 8am-12pm this Saturday 25 March 2023.

“Heading to the plant sale is a wonderful way for the community to give thanks for the work local volunteers do in our community, whilst also adding to your plant collection,” Cr Rutherford said.

“The Friends of the Gardens volunteers will be hosting the sale with all proceeds going towards their fundraising efforts for our region's beautiful gardens.

“It will be a great morning out so be sure to grab your cash and come down to the Kershaw Gardens nursery.”

Linda Broun, Vice President of the Friends of the Gardens, said the group is looking forward to sharing their passion and hosting the plant sale on Saturday.

“The volunteers and I absolutely love the gardens in our region and this plant sale will be a nice way for us to share that with the community,” Ms Broun said.

“I’ve been volunteering at the Botanic Gardens since 1999 and there is such a huge sense of satisfaction in helping to achieve something, as well as the camaraderie with other volunteers.

“We’re really looking forward to sharing our love for plants and gardens at the plant sale and hope to see you all there.

“Our group is also always looking for more volunteers, so if you’re a bit of a green thumb or just looking for a nice way to spend a few hours each week, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
