Wear orange this Wednesday and help say thank you to our local SES

Tomorrow marks Wear Orange Wednesday – a national day encouraging communities to don an orange outfit in support of their local SES volunteers.

Mayor of Rockhampton Region and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group Tony Williams said the day is a great opportunity to show how thankful our region is for the tireless efforts these volunteers put in year-round.

“We are incredibly lucky to have three dedicated and long-term SES groups in our Region with bases in Rockhampton, Gracemere and Mount Morgan,” Mayor Williams said.

“Together these groups see over 120 dedicated SES volunteers in our community.

“These volunteers do so much for our area, and we have seen this firsthand during each of the natural disasters our region has experienced in the past.

“The skills, dedication and the support they provide other agencies during disasters, such as Queensland Fire and Rescue and Police, is invaluable to say the least.

“I would really like to encourage residents to wear orange tomorrow and help show support for our local SES crews.”

Local SES Controller Eddie Cowie said Wear Orange Wednesday also brings the opportunity to welcome new recruits.

“We have a strong volunteer base in our region across the three groups, however of course there is always room for more and we always welcome new SES recruits,” Mr Cowie said.

“If you like the outdoors, you’re fit and healthy, and you meet the criteria needed to become an SES recruit, we would love to chat with you.

“Many recruits bring their own life experiences to the group and that makes an important link in working as a team.”
