Advance Rockhampton, Rockhampton Regional Council’s Tourism, Industry Development, Marketing and Major Events team are this week attending Queensland’s Tourism Week in Cairns.

Tourism Week combines a series of the tourism industry’s annual premier events, including the Destination IQ and DestinationQ Forums, and the Queensland Tourism Awards gala ceremony.

Now in its 11th iteration, Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s (QTIC) Destination IQ 2023, which is proudly supported by the Queensland Government and Tourism and Events Queensland, is Queensland's foremost annual First Nation tourism conference. Delegates and industry professionals from all backgrounds and from across the state gather to discuss data, research, innovation and 2032 Games opportunities regarding First Nations tourism.

The annual DestinationQ Forum is Queensland’s leading tourism industry event which brings government and industry leaders together to consider the future of the industry, discuss key tourism and events issues, and prioritise to keep Queensland competitive as a destination.

The DestinationQ Forum 2023 is delivered by the Queensland Government, through the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Tourism and Events Queensland, partnering with the industry through QTIC.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said that both forums are a valuable learning and networking opportunity for our Advance Rockhampton team.

“Each year they take away many concepts to integrate into our destination marketing strategy for our region,” Mayor Williams said.

“To top off a wonderful week of tourism networking, we will celebrate with the 38th annual Queensland Tourism Awards gala ceremony, which Rockhampton proudly has several nominations in this year for Rockynats Car Festival, Explore Rockhampton Marketing Campaigns.

“In addition to these, the Cassidy family have entered the multi award-winning Empire Apartment Hotel and Conference Centre, who have an amazing track record being awarded best in state at the annual celebration.”

Advance Rockhampton Tourism and Events Manager Zac Garven said that engaging with industry stakeholders is imperative to stay up to date with marketing trends.

“It is also important to nurture the incredible relationships we have with peak bodies such as Tourism and Events Queensland, who are extremely supportive of our region and events, recently providing record support to our annual Rockynats Festival,” Mr Garven said.

“These events are also a way for us to connect with industry professionals to develop campaigns such as our upcoming Accessible Tourism Campaign.

“With 2023 being the ‘Year of Accessible Tourism’ we have now commenced filming the first phase of our upcoming campaign which will excitedly be released by the end of this year.”
