Rockhampton Regional Council is extending the closing date to accept donation for their annual Homeless Connect event to be held 19 May.

Donations will now be accepted between 9am-4pm up until 13 May at the School of Arts building, 230 Bolsover Street.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said that by extending the closing date out by a week, it is hoped that will encourage even more support.

“We are on track to deliver a very good event this year and have received some wonderful support, which will go a long way, but we could do with some more donations,” Cr Wickerson said.

“With winter just around the corner, we really want to make sure some of our more vulnerable members of the community are supported.

“We are especially in need of non-perishable food items such as tinned food with ring pull tabs, cereals, noodles and soups, which will be made up into food hampers to be given out on the day.

“If you have been de-cluttering or tidying up over the recent long weekends, and have spare blankets, doonas or sleeping bags, these are also likely to be in demand.

“Whether it is picking up a hamper, to getting a haircut, a massage, or medical check-ups, the event will provide a range of services on the day.

“It is also about connecting our community who are struggling, to a network of support agencies that can help.

“From accessing accommodation, pastoral care, to health and financial advice and much more, there is always a wealth of support and knowledge that people can tap into at Homeless Connect 2022.”
