Livingstone Shire Council has revealed yet another survey showing Northern Suburbs residents want to return to the Rockhampton Region.

The survey was conducted by Livingstone in 2020 and results have finally been revealed on their website showing residents in Glendale, Glenlee and Rockyview overwhelmingly want to return.

78% responded ‘yes’ to coming home to Rockhampton in the online poll and 63% echoed the call in the mail-out and email survey.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said this is now the third vote which has shown these residents want to come home.

“It is has been shown three times now that residents in Glenlee, Glendale and Rockyview want to become part of the Rockhampton Region,” Mayor Williams said.

“Enough is enough. The message is loud and clear that these residents want to be part of the community they identify with and it is time to bring them home to Rockhampton.

“Next month, every resident in the Rockhampton Regional Council Area and Livingstone Shire will be asked if they support the transfer of Glenlee, Rockyview and Glendale to Rockhampton.

“My message is to vote yes and support these residents who want to come back to Rockhampton and contribute to our community,” Mayor Williams said.

Deputy Mayor Neil Fisher said Livingstone has shown their true colours in how they’ve tried to re-frame the survey results.

“When you read the submission, Livingstone discounts the voice of the Northern Suburbs residents immediately and downplays the importance of their own survey results,” Deputy Mayor Fisher said.

“They asked the question and they didn’t get the answer they wanted so they immediately start to talk down what the Northern Suburb residents clearly want.

“If Livingstone is going to take away these residents’ voices, it is more important than ever that our communities support them and send the message that they want to leave Livingstone and come home to the Rockhampton Region,” Deputy Mayor Fisher said.
