Spring into fun these school holidays
Published on 19 September 2025
Families across the Rockhampton Region are in for a treat these September school holidays, with a lineup of activities guaranteed to keep the kids entertained.
From vintage car rides and hands-on art sessions to cultural performances and wildlife conservation workshops, there is something for all ages to enjoy.
Deputy Mayor and Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said there is a huge range of free and low-cost activities on offer.
“We know how important it is for families to have access to affordable activities, and this program delivers just that, with many events either free or low-cost,” Cr Wickerson said.
“Rockhampton Heritage Village is a must-visit, offering a chance to step back in time with vintage vehicle rides, games and live demonstrations.
“For those with a passion for wildlife and the environment, the Rockhampton Zoo, in partnership with the Sustainability Unit, is hosting a series of conservation workshops.
“The zoo's Bugs in a Mug, Frog Hotels, and Bird Water Bowl workshops are a brilliant way for kids to learn about local wildlife and create something to attract creatures to their own backyards.”
The Rockhampton Museum of Art (RMOA) is inviting budding artists to unleash their creativity in a series of free, Rachel Burke-inspired workshops.
“These sessions will have kids and adults alike crafting with pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and all sorts of colourful materials,” Cr Wickerson said.
“This fantastic program is sure to be a hit with families, with five half-day workshops running across the school holidays.
“And for those who love to tinker, The Tinkerage in Council’s Upcycle Village has hands-on activities perfect for the DIY enthusiast.”
These holidays are also a great time to explore our beautiful parks and community spaces, from our Libraries and Mount Archer to the Kershaw Gardens and Riverside Precinct.
“This is a good opportunity to rediscover our local attractions. If you haven’t visited the Mount Morgan Rail Museum or taken a stroll along the Mount Archer Nurim Circuit, now’s the time," Cr Wickerson said.
“If you're looking for indoor fun, our libraries are also packed with engaging programs and events.
“Now that school’s out, please remember to drive carefully near parks and community spaces and keep an eye out for snakes and swooping magpies, with the warmer weather now upon us.
“Let’s keep everyone safe these school holidays.”
