To celebrate the opening of Mount Morgan’s brand-new Aquatic Centre, Rockhampton Regional Council is excited to host a Community Open Day this Saturday, 13 April.

From 9am – 5pm, families can enjoy free entry into the Aquatic Centre with a free BBQ throughout the day, ice blocks and jumping castle.

Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford and Councillor for Parks, Sport and Public Spaces said locals have been embracing the new facility since the pool opened three weeks ago.

“We have been really pleased to see some fantastic attendance numbers since the opening which really highlights what a great investment this facility is for the Mount Morgan community,” Cr Rutherford said.

“The sight of swimming lessons, aerobic classes, and families coming along to enjoy the new pool over the school holidays has created a wonderful atmosphere and is bringing life back to the facility exactly as we had envisioned.

“We are extremely grateful for receiving $4.5million from the Queensland Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund in addition to Council’s $2million investment to allow the community of Mount Morgan to finally have a pool that meets contemporary standards.

“Importantly, there are some fantastic features incorporated into the new facility as a result of input from locals, like the goldmine themed wet play area and the revival of the grandstand, which have come together really well.

“I am really looking forward to enjoying the Community Day with locals and seeing the enjoyment on people’s faces as they come through the gates to celebrate,” Cr Rutherford said.
