Second round of Motorsport Precinct consultation open now
Published on 16 October 2020
Council this week unveiled a draft master plan for the proposed Motorsport Precinct in Bouldercombe, which incorporates community feedback from earlier consultations.
The updated plans are now open for a second round of community consultation from today until Friday 30 October.
Mayor Margaret Strelow said it is great to see the community so involved in this proposed project.
“In August we went out to the community with our first draft – designed by industry experts – of what the precinct could look like,” said Mayor Strelow.
“Council received a total of 526 submissions during the first round of community consultation, and 424 of those were in support.
“Our post on Facebook also attracted over 1000 shares and 800 comments with over 2,600 people viewing the detailed information about the precinct on Council’s engagement website.
“We really want to thank the community for taking the time to share your suggestions, concerns and excitement.
“We have gone back to the designers with your thoughts and feedback and incorporated a number of changes as a result. For example, the speedway circuit has been realigned to an oval shape and we have repositioned the 1/8 mile drag strip to allow a potential future extension. We have also removed all tracks and camping areas from the creek/biodiversity corridor and incorporated additional trees to improve the appearance of the precinct and add more of a buffer.
“I would encourage everyone to head over to our engagement website, take a look at the updated design and provide any thoughts you might have at this stage.
“We will incorporate your thoughts from this round of consultation into a final masterplan, which will be released toward the end of November. The Council table will then make a decision on whether or not to progress with a development application.
“While this work is taking place, we’re also continuing to undertake technical studies and assessments to ensure that the site we’re investigating is suitable.
“This project is still in early planning stages, however we have taken some great first steps as a community.”
