Residents of the Rockhampton region have been treated to a rotation of live music in East Street each Saturday morning over the last month thanks to Advance Rockhampton’s Saturday Sounds initiative.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it is fantastic to see more vibrancy in Rockhampton’s CBD on weekends.

“We wanted to offer locals more reasons to visit the CBD on a weekend, and live music is an ideal way to provide a great atmosphere,” Mayor Williams said.

“Whether you fancy a caffeine hit, hearty breakfast or a browse through the boutique shops, make sure you head into the Rockhampton CBD one Saturday morning and take advantage of this vibe whilst supporting our fabulous local artists.”

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Mr Greg Bowden said this initiative has been a great first step in increasing the diversity of offering in the CBD precinct.

“The initial editions of Saturday Sounds have been a great success, and we’re excited to partner with our local radio stations to deliver some outside broadcasts for the final editions next month,” Mr Bowden said.

“From reggae to rock, country to covers, our Saturday Sounds program is really showcasing the amazing talent Central Queensland has to offer.”

 The upcoming artist line-up includes:

  • 5 June – Chris Schick
  • 12 June – Scott Foden
  • 26 June – 4RO outside broadcast

Saturday Sounds takes place from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, outside Kern Arcade on East Street in Rockhampton’s CBD precinct.
