Business momentum is building in Rockhampton’s CBD, with shopfronts sparking to life, new investments incoming and Rockhampton Regional Council investing into the key commercial precinct.

Among new businesses in the CBD are gyms and fitness studios, cafes, restaurants, real estate offices, and general office and retail spaces, all contributing to a dynamic and evolving business environment.

Council’s lead economic development agency, Advance Rockhampton, continues to support the development of the CBD through its engagement with local businesses and the CBD Alliance, advocacy for infrastructure improvements such as Quay Street lighting and CCTV upgrades, and initiatives such as the recent Prosperous Precincts Grant Program which facilitated shopfront makeovers, new murals and artistic activations.

The Pocket Cafe Bar was among the businesses successful in obtaining grant funding to assist in the activation of its outdoor dining space. The cafe will welcome new customers to the CBD this Saturday when it holds its official Family Open Day with activities, food and drinks, from 11am to 2pm.

Rocky Climb, a new bouldering and rope climbing gym which shares the site, was also a recipient of grant funding to assist in the construction of its new facility which will open in February 2026.

Advance Rockhampton is also actively seeking investment into the CBD in the form of accommodation to increase the Region’s offerings in the lead up to the 2032 Olympics.

Businesses and investors looking to establish or grow in Rockhampton’s CBD are encouraged to contact Advance Rockhampton (advancerockhampton@rrc.qld.gov.au) to discuss how Council’s economic development team can support you in achieving our shared ambition of creating a vibrant CBD.

“Everywhere you look, there is excitement and momentum in our CBD with new leases being signed and new businesses opening almost every week.

“The Pocket Cafe Bar and Rocky Climb are great examples of businesses seeing the enormous potential in our CBD, and through their unique offering will bring a whole new clientele of customers to the area.

“The evolution and reinvigoration of our CBD is an ongoing priority for Council and Advance Rockhampton.

“Over the last 12 months, we’ve provided more than $60,000 in grant funding to 15 businesses and activations, added more all-day parking spaces, been successful in securing Queensland Government funding for safety upgrades, and are now working to attract accommodation to our stunning riverside precinct.

“The moment in our CBD is real, and we happily welcome initiatives and investments which will keep that energy going into the future.”

“We’re excited to be bringing the Pocket Cafe Bar and Rocky Climb to Bolsover Street and can’t wait to show the community around the business on Saturday.

“By transforming an unused warehouse into a unique new offering that we hope will drive customers to the CBD and benefit the entire precinct.

“We thank Council and Advance Rockhampton for supporting our business through the Prosperous Precincts Grant Program and for sharing our vision in delivering a one-of-a-kind establishment.

“As we open our doors for the Family Open Day on Saturday, I’d encourage everyone to come along, join in the activities, grab a coffee, and learn more about what we’re offering.”
